A major shift has been NCC’s strong alignment with workforce development. The college expanded beyond associate degrees to offer short-term credential programs, boot camps, apprenticeships, industry certifications, and customized corporate training. Programs in Aviation Technology, Air Traffic Control, Automotive Technology, precision manufacturing, microelectronics, medical assisting, early childhood education, nursing, automotive technology, and data analytics were all developed in response to labor shortages.
Close employer partnerships keep programs aligned with real workforce needs. For example, NCC offers early childhood education classes at the Greater Nashua YMCA, expanding access for working adults while building a pipeline of trained professionals for local employers.

Remarkable Milestones and Recognitions
Nashua Community College earned national recognition in 2023 as a finalist for EAB’s “Return on Education Award” for measurable success in student persistence, graduation, and workforce outcomes. The recognition highlighted NCC’s innovative use of proactive advising, early intervention systems, and technologies like EAB Navigate to identify challenges early and connect students with resources before obstacles become barriers. The 2026 Credit Recovery Scholarship Program also boosts first-year retention. It funds students to retake failed or withdrawn core courses in the summer, removing financial barriers and helping them regain momentum toward degree completion. A significant enhancement is the role of Amy Vazifdar, MSW, who leads initiatives addressing students’ basic needs and crises. She oversees the food pantry and clothing closet and connects students facing housing instability, financial hardship, or mental health concerns with campus and community resources, helping remove non-academic barriers to persistence.
Academically, NCC uses EAB Navigate and other success technologies to track attendance, performance, and engagement in real time. Early alerts trigger outreach from advisors and staff who provide tutoring, coaching, or academic planning before students fall behind.
NCC’s smaller campus also fosters close relationships, allowing faculty and staff to recognize personal, financial, or emotional challenges early. By combining technology, personalized advising, and wraparound support, the college treats student success as a shared responsibility and helps students persist and complete their programs.

NCC recently launched New Hampshire’s first associate degree in finance, built for both transfer and direct workforce entry. Applied learning through labs, internships, and industry credentials prepares students for real workplace environments.
The college’s accelerated workforce development bootcamps provide rapid pathways into advanced manufacturing and electronics, with programs like microelectronics, soldering, and machining consistently achieving an 89%-93% job placement rate. By combining technical training with advising and job placement support, NCC adapts to workforce needs and prepares students for long-term career growth and continued educational advancement.
NCC’s Approach to Teaching and Learning
Technology is making NCC more flexible, personalized, hands-on, and closely aligned with workforce needs. A recent $4.5 million renovation of its STEM wing has created modern labs and collaborative space for science, technology, engineering, and IT/computer science, providing students access to industry-relevant equipment and experiences.
Instruction is also changing. NCC has expanded online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced learning formats to serve working adults, parent-students, and other nontraditional learners. Faculty use digital tools, simulations, and nontraditional learning formats to increase engagement and accessibility.
In technical programs like advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, healthcare, engineering, and natural science, students train directly on the technologies used by employers, ensuring that real-world technical systems and equipment are integrated into the curriculum so students graduate workforce-ready.

Rapid advances in AI, automation, and data analytics are changing both workplaces and how colleges deliver instruction. At the same time, employers need workers who can reskill quickly. This is driving growth in short-term credentials, apprenticeships, and accelerated bootcamps in fields like healthcare, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy.
Student demographics are also changing. With fewer traditional-age students, colleges will serve adult learners, career changers, and working professionals. Many students balance jobs, family, and financial pressure, so holistic support from childcare and mental health services to emergency aid is becoming crucial to persistence and completion.

Expanding ACCA and Capacity: NCC’s Next Big Investments
Dr. Keane points to two major initiatives made possible by recent federal and capital funding.
First, NCC is launching an early childhood education program with an on-campus drop-off childcare program for parent-students. Affordable childcare is one of the biggest barriers to completion, and this will give student-parents the support they need while also serving as a hands-on training site for ECE students.
Second, the college has secured $1.4 million in capital funding for a new allied health instructional center. This facility will expand capacity in nursing pathways, medical assisting, and other health programs through modern labs and simulation space, directly addressing critical healthcare workforce shortages in the region.
